3 Ways to Optimize Your Work Productivity by Staying Healthy

Have you ever wondered if it’s possible to stay healthy while running a business? Although it may sound like a difficult task, it is much easier than you might think. The things you do outside of work are just as important as the things you do at work. This can be anything from choosing to stay out late partying or working late hours.

Health is a vital piece to success, and if you want to reach your full potential, you will need to focus more time and energy on your well-being. In short, Diet, Sleep, and Exercise are the three key characteristics that you need to focus on. With these in mind, there will be a positive correlation with how well you will perform during work since you will feel better, have more energy, and overall you will be happier. These together are what will not only increase your productivity but improve your entire life.

Why Having a Great Diet Is Crucial‍

Fruits and Whole foods

When you gulp an energy drink, eat a bag of chips or any other junk food, you get a quick burst of energy and feel like you can accomplish anything. After about a few hours, the "crash" finally sets in, and you feel sluggish. To get out of this state, you can snack again, maybe get a coffee, or just fight through it. Conversely, if you skip meals or don’t eat enough because you want to get back to work on "more important" tasks, these are both horrible for your body and will hurt your ability to stay healthy while running a business.

Here Are Some Tips to Help You Eat Healthier

Eat Regularly

This keeps your blood sugar levels more stable and will help your brain perform better.

Consume Healthy Fats

Include omega-3 fatty acids in your diet. These can be found in walnuts, flaxseed, and fish oil, as they also support brain function.

Eat High Fiber Foods

This is associated with greater alertness and decreased perceived stress.

By doing these things, you will see an immediate difference in your work productivity, which will help you stay healthy while running a business.

Why Relaxing Will Boost Your Overall Productivity‍

You have probably heard this a million times, but giving yourself at least 8 hours of sleep is one of the best things you can do for your health. It sounds so simple, yet it is tough to do. I tend to work late into the night, giving myself only a few hours of sleep. I walk into the office feeling like a train just hit me, and the last thing I want to do is sit in front of a computer for eight hours. That whole day is wasted because I wanted to get in an extra three hours of work the night before. That being said, if you relax too much, oversleep, or take naps, all of these will poorly impact your work.

To change this bad habit, you can start by learning how to delegate work effectively, so you don’t have to put in those extra hours. You should commit to a consistent 8-hour per night sleep schedule during the week, and then you can reward yourself by sleeping in on the weekends.

There needs to be a balance in life, and a great concept to follow is the 8-8-8 model, which breaks your life into three different characteristics, which include Work, Personal Life, and Sleep, and each aspect gets 8 hours dedicated to it. By giving yourself the proper amount of sleep, you are enabling yourself to do great things. In turn, your productivity will rise because you will be more focused and have more energy. Maintaining a consistent, regular schedule will do wonders for your productivity and well being.

Why You Should Take That Walk‍

The CDC says adults should do moderate-intensity aerobic exercise for two hours and 30 minutes every week (about half an hour per day). This is to not only maintain a healthy life but to increase energy. This may sound like a perfect plan to some, but for others dedicating 30 minutes a day is not possible. This is completely fine because just by doing short bursts of exercise throughout the day will still get the job done. This can be anything from taking the stairs instead of the elevator or just taking a break from sitting down in your chair for too long. As we all have heard already, "Sitting is the new smoking.” As bad as is sounds, sitting down for long periods can adversely affect your health over the long term, so get up out of your chair, take that walk, clear your mind, and get your blood moving so you can continue to be the best version of yourself.
